We were promised very good weather by our weather
guru, David Masson, mainly in two areas; to the west as
far as North Hill and to the east north of the London TMA
to Tibenham. Paul Kite, the task setter, set a number of
turning points in the two respective directions. The aim
to yo-yo from one direction to the other via Didcot.
The weather lived up to expectations with 3 pilots
exceeding 650k, 6 over 500k and 6 over 400k. Special
mention went to Adrian Emck who flew 502.6 in his Ka6E.
There was talk of very good thermals but some nasty gaps,
a steady 9+ knots to cloud base was experienced by at
least one glider. Both North Hill and Tibenham were
reached with very few landouts or engine use.
Provisional results show Justin Wills and Andrew Reid
joint leaders, 651k and 560k respectively but Andrew
twigged the value of yo-yoing east/west so achieving 8
TPs against Justins 6. Paul Kite covered most distance
673k but failed to read his task rules and only reached 5
TPs! Final results will be issued shortly as there are a
few airspace issues to resolve.
Total distance flown by 24 pilots was 10,554k.
