Day 1 “Clubbing” (local gliding clubs)
Good
thermal day much interference from wave which only Lindsay McLane successfully
used to 9,000ft to be the only person to go north to Currock Hill and only one
to exceed 300km so winning the day.
Day 2 – “2 String of pearls” (one north,
one south)
More
good thermals, particularly to the north. Forecasted trough to south did stop people
reaching the better weather at Hus Bos. Bill Payton only one
to manage a TP south of the club and to exceed 300 km to win the day.
Day 3 “A Day at the Races” (local race
courses)
Very
good thermals but big cu nims. Good sea breezes in east, convergence
Day 4 “Yorkshire 500” or “A trip to
Day did
not live up to previous day’s weather, forecasters
hopes and task setter’s enthusiasm. Better to south but localised, several
visited our new Yorkshire TP south east of Hull Thorngumbold. Nevertheless, 6
flew 300kms with Justin 347km winning just 4km ahead of Mike Pope.
Day 5 “Spider’s Web”
A
more difficult day with high cover quickly reducing soaring around SB, better
patch to the south.
Many spent time very low, 5 exceeded 100km with Justin deciding to make it a
downwind drift to Saltby some 183km to win the day.
Day 6 “Hill Scramble” or “Sam's
A ridge
day with drizzle turned into bright sunshine, good ridge lift and connecting
wave. 2 hardy souls completed Sam’s task, others stayed local enjoying the
wave. Stuart Naylor, took on the 100km Hill Scramble and achieved 207 kph which not only won him the
day but probably broke several national records not to mention blowing apart
the scoring system by starting at 13,700ft and finishing at 4,700ft. Alan
Irving and Mike Greenwood tried the same but “only” managed 171 kph and 136 kph
respectively.
